[Trubmeisters] FeBREWary Notes Date: 2004-02-10 07:58 Beer, Beer, and More beer! This months selection was amazingly large. Thank you to Rick and his wife JoEllen. Even with all the questionable weather, the turn out was quite good. We had 2 new members. Jeff Witt's wife Cindy and their son Michael attended this months meeting. Welcome to both of you. Hope to see more of them. Michael really enjoyed himself with all the "toys" laying around. Rick may call them collectables, but Michael just saw toys, toys, and more toys. The food was great as usual. Rick made some meat that was so tender and full of flavor, you could eat it alone. There was bread and bbq sauces anyhow to meet the tastes of anyone. I think Rick must have asked Steve to ripen some cheese with the special yeast he finds between his toes. Anyhow, the cheese was labeled Steve's Cheese. It was very tasty. There were some bread chunks I assumed Larry brought, but could be wrong. Betty made some flattened pecan pie. Someone said it was a box mix from Krusty the Clown. Debbie brought some fancy choco-chip cookies in a fancy tin can. The beer, wine, and mead selection was really outstanding this month. Here is a rundown of each of them and a quick note as I was tasting. cherry wine - sour cherry, very easy to drink vin blanc - sweet almost a mead (I think we decided it really was mead!) barley wine - very smooth, barely alcohol taste, a little bit of a gusher porter w/smoke - slight smoke, nice porter liefmans kriek - barely ok some french framboise - not great raspberry ale - yummy oatmeal stout - mmmmm ... beer! dragonhead stout - made in scotland - great stout, not too bitter st peters best bitter - hop hop hop chab cab - good Riesling - good hefeweisen - like i tried this one! ;-) new glarus native ale - close to brown ale oscars stout - always a great stout the poet stout - from new holland - i taste cascade hops, very good anyhow chaucer mead mulled - like cider, served hot chocolate oatmeal stout - like eating a choco chip oatmeal cookie :p a very cherry xmas ale - wow! very red and cherry belfast bay mcgoverns oatmeal stout - best enjoyed before dec 02 - great very rich stout. I like it. rogue mocha porter - ok mocha, lacks body steel reserve (in a big can) - 8.1 abv - great head, alcohol not evident We did have a couple of members get lost on the way. I can understand that. I lost the directions myself, and had to look it up on mapquest before we left. After an hour on the phone with them, Rick went out in search of the Rev Ken and his companion Kim. They made it there in the end, and good thing too since Ken had some great beer in his possession. Betty is looking for glassware to fill with more wax. She is also taking donations of ear wax if you have any to spare. If you have some to donate to her, feel free to bring it to the next meeting. She uses these to make door prizes. Speaking of prizes, we forgot to raffle anything off last night! With all the "toys" on the shelves, we should have found something to give away. At one point, the whole room was quite loud and everyone was talking at once. I was no where near Suzie when the room suddenly went silent. She finished her sentence in a normal voice, but everyone heard "I am Aroused!" We still don't know the context, and she refuses to give up what they were talking about, but we all agreed that arousal was an acceptable state to be in. I think I saw some couples leave just moments after that. George brought shame on the office of the presidency. He is on some silly diet, and did not partake of drinking last night. We did get him to at least taste a couple sips of some things, so he can be forgiven. I can assure you that he held true to his other title of President of Vice though. Betty being her typical self, was insistent on getting everyone to listen to her. She announced that my assignment of the title of Secretary of WhINEing was not acceptable. She informed us that she was no Fvc&en' Secretary! So we quickly reassigned her title to be Suckutary of Fvc&en'. Brian agreed that was a great description of what she is best at doing. After many permutations and preponderances of positively preposterous pronouns, Betty was politely presented with the title of Princess of Peeved and Perverted Presidential Poppycock. That title should be official sounding enough for her. Photo's were taken last night, and Betty insists that I post the pictures she took last month. I thought she was doing the web page, but I guess not. That puts it back on me and my limited time. The web page is http://trubs.kane1.com. It was down earlier this week, and may be down intermittently over then next month. (It looks like it is down again right now again. Probably because I had to do a restore last night Grrrr!) I upgraded and am still patching for new bugs. The PHP (dynamic page maker) will stay down for a while, but the Trubs site does not need that. Anyhow, if I find Betty's pictures, and/or if Larry emails me this months photos, I'll post them. It'll be fun to try out my new software toy. The upgrade was so I could run that crappy Micky$oft stuff from my Linux box. In the mean time, go to the web page (when it comes back up next week) and check out the old pictures of the Leinies tour and the trip to Briess malting. See you all next month at George and Janet's house. Janet is making giant doobies for everyone. Something about snow pea pods too, but I'm not sure how that fits in. To All A Good Beer, And A Good Beer To All! Jeff Kane
