[Trubmeisters] November Meeting Notes Date: 2003-11-07 13:22 It was a close call! This morning I was editing the notes from last night, and my hand held hung up. Even the reset button would not make it work. I tried to dump the notes to my computer, and that would not work either. :-( I finally took it all apart and put it back together. Now it works again, so you are all in luck. Especially with all the different beers we sampled last night. I would NEVER have been able remember them. Welcome to the November edition of the meeting notes. I actually remembered to bring my handheld, so there are real time notes of each sampled product. ;-) This is per the request of one of our lurkers. He says that these notes need to describe the beer more than the social event. How about a little of both this month! I bet he doesn't even read this now. Thanks goes out to our hosts Tom and Debbie. They opened their house to our little rag tag group and allowed us to spill beer all over their nice furniture. They don't even brew beer themselves. They just enjoy drinking it. I think everyone enjoyed the theme of food with beer even though not all foods had beer in them. But enough blabber, on to the details. Home made wines and meads: 2000 black raspberry merlot - sweet and smooth, aged very well, like drinking candy! 2000 Chilean merlot - smooth, well blended, a great wine white wine - good, not sure what kind? spiced mead - slight hotness, goes away quickly Commercial Wines: 2003 marion blackberry 3 lakes winery - sweet, some complained it was too young 2003 smoking loon merlot - medium dry, all around good wine Home Brews: hopkins homestead - great ale and nice stout too bim's octoberfest - very close to style stout - very rich cherry ale - light on the cherry but at 5 yrs old could be the blending with age Commercial Beers: 3 stooges - good lager for a beer who's draw is the label! bells stout - good as always j dundies brown - drinkable henry weinhards northwest trail - good great lakes burning river - good einbecher schwartz beer - has been one of my favorites for many years Kegged Home Brew: pumpkin beer - very much pumpkin! stout - very stout! Food: lakeside pale ale welsh rarebit (looks like cheese fondue) bread, bread, bread, bread, and bread. Did I mention there was bread? chicken wings - smoky and good, the stuff stuck to the bottom of the pan was the best part pretzels and beer hot mustard sausage - course cut katie's mini pizzas made with all veggies beer nuts brownies - tasted like pecan pie stew - very beefy, tasted fire brewed apple pie - one of those paper bag pies stout float - Mmmmmm Beer and Ice Cream! You can't go wrong there. Our host had a recipe book of things to make with beer. We tried to get him to raffle it off, but he resisted. There was a brief discussion on why we don't do raffles. It seems we can't find stuff to give away cheap enough. I'll look around and see if I can find anything. This has been a weak year for company give away's, but I may have a t-shirt or hat I can bring to December's meeting. They just won't be beer related. :-( There was a giant dog at this house. It could also be described as the size of a small bear. And it was fuzzy like a bear too. It walked around and licked any hand within reach. Very friendly, and never seemed to bite even once. Although, I did hear it spent a couple days in doggie jail for humping a juvenile in a park one time. Speaking of fuzzy creatures who hump the wrong things, our resident club bear offered to let people duct tape his back and then tear the tape off. There was a short discussion about the movie Jack A $ $. But we tried not to go quite that far. His hair was so greasy, that the tape didn't take much off. He didn't even scream. It was a disappointment. We're using hot wax next month. You can buy a pull on the wax for a dollar. Proceeds go towards raffle prizes. ;-) We had 2 new members named Paul and Linda. Welcome to our club, and we hope you find us worthy of your continued membership. Paul has been brewing for quite a few years already. He had a few of the beers without labels, and I suspect the Hopkins Homestead was his also, but I am not sure. The total crowd was the typical crowd, plus a couple more. There was plenty of room, so all you lurkers out there join in the fun and show up for a meeting. We actually called the meeting to order and it kind of worked! There was a discussion on officer nominations for next year. Since we really have no officers, no one was nominated. But Betty has finally agreed to step down. However, she insists she be given the President of Vice position. George has retired that jersey, so it can't happen. We will not nominate officers next month also. Here is the tentative 2004 meeting location schedule. I know a couple of couples were not present, and did not get to pick a date. If you really want one, talk to the couple or single who has that month and negotiate with them. I hear some people are easy, and others are much harder to please. Take Betty for instance. She insisted on having 2 meetings, but was put back in her place and told if she didn't shut up we would bring fireworks to her house again and call the police ourselves! 2004 schedule Jan Brian & Betty Feb Rick Mar George & Janet Apr Dan May Larry Jun Steve & MJ Jul Jeff & Diana Aug Paul & Linda Sep Jeff & Mary Anne Oct Steve & Tony Nov Tom & Debbie Dec Ken Next month is at Reverend Ken's house. Can we assume Kim will be there also? He has a great big basement dedicated to beer with a shrine of bottles we can give offerings to. If you have any unusual bottle to donate, I am sure Ken will take your offering and place it in everlasting rest on the shelf with the other bottles. A Good Beer To All, and To All A Good Beer!
