[Trubmeisters] Mama Mia! Thatsa Lotsa Beer, Mead, and Wine! Date: 2003-10-03 13:10 What a meeting last night! Tony's family puts on a great spread. Lot's of pizza and fresh hot bread. Thank you so much for inviting all of us to your family's restaurant. I'm sure everyone enjoyed it. I know I did. I remember thinking I forgot my organizer last night. When I got home I remembered that I didn't forget it. I just had forgotten to remember to bring it inside the building with me. Since I thought I had forgotten to remember it, I didn't remember to get it out and write things in it so I wouldn't forget them this morning. Hence, I've forgotten everything that I was supposed to remember happening last night. :-) There were the usual assortment of beverages made with yeast and fermentable sugars. I should say the total was close to excessive last night. There were about 8 kegs, and so many bottles, even if I had remembered to take notes, I don't think my organizer has enough memory to hold all that text. ;-) We had a couple of meads and a couple wines too. Most memorable was Steve's (of Steve & Tony) Black Cat Porter. It was so smooth and flavorful. Just a hint of vanilla and some decent body. Almost stout like, but with the vanilla, it was mellower. There was quite a bit of that drank. Next on my list of favorites was Jim & Sue's Pineapple/Mango Melomel. Gently sweet and fruity, but not too fruity. Obviously a bit of alcohol too. But well masked by the honey. I think I drank a few to many of that one. Our old friend, and Jedi Master of brewing, AB graced us with his presence last night. It was refreshing to see an old friend from the early days of the club. Welcome back and we hope to see you again. He brought some beer in very cool bottles. It was made by Wychwood Brewery (appropriate for October). The label name escapes me right now. I can say it was very good beer too. Steve and Stephanie returned this month and brought some of the mead they had at the Shapson's. It was just as good this month. They also had some Imperial Stout which I enjoyed sampling. As bad as I am with names, I am happy to say I remembered Stephanie's name this time. I'll be sure to forget it again next month. Let's see, there was Ken's stout, and Dan had something I am sure too. I tasted some other beverages, but forget what they were. My wife brought back some beer from when she was out west in California. We sampled it last night too. There was a Stovepipe Porter in the pack. I was pretty impressed with it. Might be worth seeking out locally. There were about 3 wheat beers which were not sampled by this editor. Sorry, but with all the other beverages, I had a hard time deciding which to fill up on. I know there were a lot of other beers, but this is getting to long already. So just trust me that all the beverages were good. I didn't try any that weren't worth drinking. Our club really has some great brewers! There was a suggestion made to enhance the meetings a bit. The host of the meeting should award best beverage of the month. We could get a little piece of blue ribbon or such and give it to the best beer tasted. Sound like a good idea to everyone? It did to me. Tom and Deb will be hosting next month. They are Steve's neighbors (and relatives). Although they do not brew their own beer, they help Steve make his. We knew he had some secret. The reason his beer is good is because someone else is really making it for him. Directions will come out closer to meeting time. If you get lost, just look for the fireworks and the red and blue flashing lights. ;-) A Good Beer To All, And To All A Good Beer! Jeff Kane
